you still need to consider the economic welfare of Australia, we are already on 3.8% cpi which over exceeds our 2-3% inflation target. I understand that we need the stimulus to offset a future recession. but labour could have done other things to expand fisical policy like cut tax rates to induce consumer spending. we have one of the highest tax rates in the world I think it's time for the money to go back to the people of australia.

LMFAO!! He dances like a muppet. Our leaders in action lol!
Peter Garrett had to align with a major political party to have any real say so he didn't totally sell out.

What is he, a f*ucking stand-up comedian. I don't mind Peter Costello, he's a smart man with some good values and interesting ideas, but boy he's got ego.

I would personally agree that if we have a surpluss we should spend it, its idiotic for a government to have surplus money, and not spend it where its most needed. In my opinion, the labor government has always fixed shit, and steered us towards a more unique culture, at the cost of money, whereas the liberal party saves money and sucks up to the US. Liberal party seems to be more worried abotu the wealth of the government than the welfare of its population.

Brilliant! Thanks for making this. Peter Costello might consider starting a band...with those moves, and no job...or is he now with the World Bank?

There are a lot of comments suggesting that it is a god thing for the country to have a surplus in their budget... this makes a lot of assumptions about the role of the Government.
It is the Government's role to build our society - therefore the Govt must spend money. The question should never be - "is the Government in a debt or surplus?" but rather - "is the money being spent, being spent wisely?"
