Add in the fact that "socialized" medicine costs less per person, per capita than our current system and you should be asking yourself this: "If we're on the verge of another Great Depression, why wouldn't we want a healthcare system that removes the process of the incursion of massive debt on the individual?" If something is going to help the economy, it is going to be making sure more people have more money to spend on stuff that matters. Like food, school, etc.

In California, Medical (medicare/medicaid/etc.) takes about $11 for every $1,000 earned. So, the problem with that system is that it doesn't take enough money and nobody can get that insurance anyway.And we're not on the verge of another great depression. There is absolutely NO comparison between now and the Great Depression. None. Zero. Zip. Our economy will bounce back eventually. That's what it does. If you're really concerned about healthcare/econ, just research England's system...

For the most part I agree with Mike, but IMO, totally free health care is unrealistic. Yes, it should be non-profit, but services need compensation.
